Course Description
A course designed for Bridge Helmsman to improve their understanding of standard procedures, basic shiphandling and reactions to emergencies. The course is structured to include as much practical consolidation as possible; this is conducted in the bridge simulator and mini-simulators. Of note is that course content can be tailored to client requirements to suit and benefit the target audience.
Course Assessment
Assessment of practical procedures in bridge simulator.
Teaching Methods
Classroom lectures (50%) consolidated through practical exercises (50%) on mini-simulators and as a team in Mission Bridge.

- Responsibilities of the Helmsman
- Handovers
- Composition of the Navigational Watch
- Basic shiphandling
- Conning orders and closed-loop communication
- Reactions to emergencies (including man-overboard)
Prerequisites
No mandated prerequisites required.
ECDIS Ltd Instructors
Instructors and assessors are required to be qualified in accordance with the requirements of Regulation I/6 STCW. All of our trainers are mariners and highly experienced in the practical use of leadership and management, having pushed themselves to their personal limits at sea.
