New ECDIS/ECS Refresher Course for the Super Yacht Industy
As the result of a recent partnership with David Store Navigational Management, ECDIS Ltd are pleased to release their most recent new courses, expanding their super yacht course collection.
The 1 day ECDIS/ECS Operators Refresher Course and 2 day ECDIS/ECS Management Course have been developed by ECDIS Ltd’s Robyn Harrigan and DSNM’s David Store.
Evenly split between presentations, to build the foundation of knowledge and practical exercises and discussions, courses can be delivered at ECDIS Ltd, located in Southampton, UK, or conducted at a location of your choice, using our mobile training suite. We are able to visit you and conduct ‘in house’ training on your own systems, ensuring the highest level of understanding for you and your team.

Team Building Day
Fed up of the ordinary team building day? We have a solution!!
ECDIS Ltd have recently delivered their first team building day at our facility in Fareham. Run in June of this year, the fun filled day consisted of several team building activities on our newly developed mini simulator race course, along with results sessions and winning celebrations.
“The simulator was the best team building event I have ever been on and completed that was actually relevant to what the work revolved around and I am very grateful to you all for putting it on for us.
I think the company were excellent, very friendly and forthcoming, they had put a great deal of effort into the game and made the event a huge success. Allowing us access to the full bridge simulator and all the repeat simulators and letting us choose any port in any condition was a great achievement.
Everybody had smiles on their face’s all morning and that says it all.”

The 3D Environment Artist team at ECDIS Ltd have recently developed the Port Creation service launched by the company last Tuesday at this year’s Seawork International. Crowds surrounded the ECDIS Ltd stand at 11.00am on Tuesday 11th June during the Southampton exhibition, to witness the launch of this innovative service.

The Port Creation service allows you to create any port of your choosing, even if it has not yet been digitally created. The benefits of such a service will increase the training standards across the board of all our courses from BTM, to Berthing to ECDIS. Ultimately this should help to improve the safety of seafarers, as more varying scenarios can be practised and bespoke scenarios can be created for the exact environments the vessel may find.

With attendees from over forty varying companies within the industry, as well as the Mayor of Fareham, ECDIS Ltd successfully ran their third open day on the 16th May this year, raising awareness of issues surrounding Maritime Training in a Digital Age.

During the free event external speakers included MAIB, RNLI and Edson Tiger. Presentations from the day promoted in-depth lively debates on a range of important subjects. Sweet Success for ECDIS Ltd and the RNLI
At our recent Maritime Training in a Digital Age open day on May 16^th of this year, the staff of ECDIS Ltd proudly presented Paul White from the RNLI with a donation, raised purely from the profits of our charity tuck box.
During training at ECDIS Ltd, seafarers from across the globe have tucked into several chocolates and crisps, all in aid of rasing money for the RNLI. Money for seafarers, raised by seafarers – we would definitely call that sweet success!

Here at The Enav Centre we are pleased to announce the MCA approval for our recently added Human Element and Leadership Management (HELM), Operational Level course.
“HELM is crucial to the improvement of safety standards at all levels with the Operational Level Course playing an integral part. For me, it is a huge privilege to be selected from among our team of instructors to deliver the Operational Level Course as well as HELM (M).
HELM creates the space to discuss with a peer group what would otherwise be impossible outside the classroom environment.
With students debriefing the Case Studies; this has allowed them to bring together and utilise all the tools they are presented with during the interactive three-day course which in turn has received favourable comments during end of course discussions. The course allows crew members to return to their vessels with a refreshed view on how they can interact and take up their positions as part of a diverse and multi cultural crew” – Richard (Joe) Sloly, ECDIS Ltd, HELM Instructor.
There are now several planned HELM Operational courses running throughout the rest of this year, welcoming anybody who wishes to join the course in order to complete their HELM O training.

** The Enav Centre delivers their first CPD Course

The Enav Centre successfully delivered their first Continuous Professional Development (CPD) course to Svitzer earlier this month. The CPD course was delivered by Darren Clark of the E-Nav Centre and ran over a two day period covering:
* The Legal Aspects of Radar within Navigation and ECS
* Familiarisation of a Radar Set including the Basic Theory, Setup and Controls
* Use of the Radar Navigation tools focusing on Parallel Indexing (PI’s)
* The Introduction into ECS, the Concept and Capability, Advantages and Disadvantages
* Familiarisation and implementation of Passage Planning within an ECS
* Consolidation and utilisation of the aforementioned topic’s within the Bridge Simulator
The CPD course tests the practical use of the student passage plans, into mini simulators and navigation around their planned tracks, with a final assessment in the bridge simulator focused on problem solving by using the sensors within a series of pre-designed exercises.
